Baptism
As a church, it is special for us when people are baptised as a response to what they believe Jesus has done for them.
Jesus said, “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and the Son and of the Holy Spirit”. This is what we do at Stanley Road Baptist Church.
Baptism is by total immersion under water, although we believe that it is the depth of the faith – not the depth of the water – that is important. In going through the waters of baptism an individual is making a public declaration of a personal faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour. It is a picture of being buried and raised to new life: an external demonstration of an internal experience.
Here are some stories of people who have been baptised at Stanley Road Baptist Church.

On March 11, 2018, I was baptised at Stanley Road Baptist Church. Being baptised was the best moment of my life. It was a little nerve-wracking, as I felt vulnerable about a personal experience being shared with others. However, it was also humbling for me to see many people come together to support and celebrate with me.
When I was 19, I received a Bible verse that said, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight” (v5-6). This was the verse which gave me the encouragement to accept Jesus as my Lord and Saviour, and ask Him into my life.
Following this, I had a desire to be baptised because what I read in the Bible revealed to me that baptism is an important step of faith. I wanted to publicly declare my belief in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. I also wanted others to hear how God had changed my life, and for them to know that I am committed to following and serving Jesus all my days.

My baptism on Easter Sunday 2022 was a wonderful experience. It was the icing on the cake of my Christian life. All my sins washed away and a new me - a better me - emerged from the water.

Infant Dedications
As Christians we believe that everyone is special to Jesus, including children. In fact Jesus got angry with his disciples when they refused to allow children to come to him.
Like many other churches, we dedicate rather than baptise children who are too young to believe in Jesus for themselves. This is a ceremony through which we thank God for the safe arrival and life of the child. The parents who feel able to also make a promise to God to teach their child about the Christian faith by what they say and the way that they live.
